HND MCIHT
Regional Director

RORY MCHUGH

Rory is a Transport Planner with 19 years’ experience, and has supported private and public sector clients across a range of complex and strategic developments, as well as masterplanning projects. He holds a HND in Civil Engineering and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (MCIHT).

Before joining Apex TP, Rory spent 12 years’ at a national multi-disciplinary consultancy, progressing to the position of Director and jointly leading the national transportation division whilst having responsibility for the performance of the southern region (Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Cornwall and London offices).

Rory has significant experience of devising transport and mobility strategies that contribute to achieving commercially viable planning consents. He supports projects through all planning stages, from inception / feasibility, through planning, negotiation of S106, reserved matters and condition discharge, and appearing as expert witness at appeal.

He has project managed and delivered complex transport assessments and all associated aspects for large and strategic private development projects. Examples of projects that Rory has led on include major mixed-use developments, residential developments in excess of 1,000 dwellings, a football stadium expansion, and an inland surfing lake.

He particularly enjoys developing strategies at the earliest stages of a project, embracing the synergies that exist between disciplines and land-uses, and recognising that a successful mobility strategy has wide-reaching environmental, social and economic benefits.

Rory is adept at developing strong relationships with client and project team members in order to work towards a common goal.

I am delighted to be joining Apex TP at this exciting time for the business.

Once away from the desk, I generally have my hands full with a young family, but if I get the chance then you may find me out running or cycling, or being slightly less energetic and watching the football with a beer in-hand
